Doorknob Hangers and Flyers Still Work for Bar and Restaurant Promotion

busy restaurant

For many years, one of the tried and true methods of getting people to come into a restaurant or a bar for the first time was through handouts. The flyers that get stuffed under windshields and the doorknob hangers that you put on the doors in the neighborhood were once a good way of getting the word out about your place. Do they still work in the digital age?

You might be surprised, but they do still offer some great benefits. One of the nice things about flyers and door hangers is that they are very cheap to produce. The door hangers are going to be a bit more expensive than the flyers are in most cases, but when you order them in bulk the price is well worth it. They are much cheaper than many other types of advertising out there today.

You need to make sure that you have a high quality flyer and hanger though, and you need to make sure that it has all of the pertinent information. It needs to have the establishment’s name, address, phone number, and website. It should also have some type of call to action that makes the customer want to use it.

Restaurant and Bar Tips for Good Design

restaurant designSo you’ve bought a bar and are looking to be the next Gordon Ramsey, without the excessive swearing at the staff. Well, design can make or break a bar, You’re going to have to set up a design so that you don’t become one of those statistics of closed bars within the first two years. You’ve chosen a hard profession, but with a little help, your design can go a long way in making customers feel comfortable and at home while they eat your delectable dishes. Here’s some basic restaurant design tips.

Entrance Tips

  • You’re going to need ample space for a hostess station where they can welcome guests and see them to their tables. Also consider adequate space for patrons waiting for a table.
  • Some restaurants let you pay at a cash register once they’ve finished. Make this an area on its own where payment can be taken care of. This is not needed if you intend for your customers to pay at the table after their meal.
  • Provide seats for customers who are waiting for tables. No one likes to stand for an hour watching those tasty dishes brush past them.
  • If your restaurant has a bar attached to it, you can use this as a waiting area for customers who have to wait for a table. Assuming your restaurant is a hit and the wait is long.

Bar

  • Occasionally used as a waiting area, some full service bars even offer small meals along with drinks so that patrons don’t have to wait to begin eating. Serving small portions may be best so they don’t spoil their appetite on gin and steak. (more…)

Maximizing Restaurant Revenue with Good Design

restaurant designWhen a person builds or opens a restaurant, the layout is a major aspect in creating a successful restaurant. A restaurant with efficient service has many happy customers and many return customers. Happy customers + efficient service= profits and longevity for the venue.

When creating the perfect restaurant, plan it out before you jump into the decorations and placements of the furniture. Place the bar stools around the bar either at the center of the room or at the back of the room in order to keep everyone happy. For example, in some restaurants the bar and bar stools are located in a room off to the side or sometimes right in the middle of the room if it is a sports type restaurant.

Some restaurant owners will make a more complicated pathway for a guest to walk through from the front door to the tables. By doing so, the waiters and staff will have more time to help all of the current customers and have sufficient time to clear off the tables and clean them. Placing the restaurant chairs and tables in such a way may slow down the customers’ turnover slightly but will help to minimize walk-outs. (more…)

Celebrate the Oscars and Emmys at Your Restaurant

red carpet

There are a large number of people who absolutely love to watch the Oscars, the Emmys and all of the different award shows. Some people even have parties and invite their friends over so they can watch the shows together. As a restaurant owner, you want to be able to draw people into your venue, and a great way to do that is to capitalize on events such as these.

You will want to start your promotions early. In fact, have an entire week dedicated to the award show, and even rename some of your dishes for movies, shows, directors, etc. For example, last year you could have had a True Grits breakfast dish that comes with grits rather than oatmeal. Coming up with names and specials should be easy enough to do.

If you have a large television, you might want to host a special night for the awards show and let people come to your establishment to watch. Turn it into a red carpet event of your own and charge an entrance fee that includes dinner and a glass of wine. You could even make it a formal or semiformal affair if you want. If you are going to do this, you need to make sure that you have the proper amount of restaurant seating and that it is comfortable enough for people to use throughout the duration of the show.

Email Lists can Work for Restaurant Promotions

More than likely, you’ve been asked to provide your email address for promotions through various online companies, and even brick and mortar stores that you frequent. These promotions can work for restaurants as well, but you have to make sure that you do it the right way.

Keep in mind that some people don’t like to sign away their email address to strangers. They are afraid of getting spammed and hacked, and you really can’t blame them. As great as technology is, it also comes with a lot of problems. Never tell someone that they have to sign up, as this can get a lot of people angry. Instead, have your employees point out the email signup book and let the customers know that you will be sending coupons and special offers through the address, and that is the only thing that you will be doing. Let them know that you aren’t going to sell the addresses to anyone else.

You can have a book at the front of the restaurant where people can sign up. You should also have a form or an email address on your website that people can use to sign up if they don’t want to sign up while they are at the restaurant.
